Mandy Jewel Phillips, 85, of Muncie, IN went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2008. Jewel died at home surrounded by her love ones. She was born September 12, 1923 in Fentress County, TN the daughter of Caleb and Mary (Chapman) Buck.
Jewel was a member of the Foursquare Gospel Church. She retired from Ball State University and maintained a convalescence home for many years.
Surviving relatives include sons, Shelby H. Upchurch (wife Rhodene), Sherman G. Upchurch (wife Anita) and Herschel Gavin Upchurch (wife April), seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Stamper, Corina Marlow, Shelby, William, Candice, Aaron and Jarod Upchurch, nine great-grandchildren, Wesley Stamper, Lauren Marlow, Caitlin Stamper, Jacob Marlow, Benjamin Upchurch, Hannah Jo Upchurch, Caleb Upchurch, Javin Upchurch and Graci Upchurch, one great, great-grandchild Autumn Stamper,one sister, Erna Swoape and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Caleb Buck, two brothers and three sisters, husband Shelby E. Upchurch and husband William H. Phillips.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 3, 2009 at the Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, Indiana, 47303. Rev Jim Marlow and Pastor Lane Fairchild will officiate the service. Viewing will be on Friday January 2, 2009 from 4:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Memorial contributions can be tithed at your local church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
