Marietta Applegate, 90, of Gaston, IN died Friday July 17, 2009 at her residence. She was born on January 6, 1919 the daughter of Raymond and Julia (Cushman) Johnson. She graduated from Gaston High School and Purdue University. On May 11, 1941 she married C. Clifford Applegate who preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Gaston United Methodist Church, Matthews Eastern Star, Alpha Tau, and Extension Homemakers. She enjoyed RV camping, playing cards, reading, and Purdue University sports.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Marilyn Wickert (husband: Larry) of North Judson, IN; Laurel Garrett (husband: Wayne) of Muncie, IN; Susie Martin (husband: Bailey) of Fairview Heights, IL; one brother, William Johnson (wife: Bess) of Springfield, OH; three granddaughters, Sarah Craft (husband: Thad) of Bloomington, IL; Julia Wickert of North Judson, IN; and Katie Garrett of Muncie, IN.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday July 22, 2009 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie, IN. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. An Eastern Star Service will be at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday.
