Mary E. Eleanor'' Carney, The Butterfly Lady'', 89, of Muncie, IN, passed away Friday, February 19, 2010 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She was born on November 11, 1920 in Muncie to the late Earl F. and Mary (Walsh) Reason. On June 17, 1936 she married Hubert H. Carney in Muncie.
Eleanor was a homemaker most of her life. She also worked for a grocery store and factory in her early days. Eleanor and her late husband were also professional square dancer''s. They appeared on The Grand Ole Opry. Eleanor was a member of the Elks, Moose, and Eagles Renewed Hearts Club. She was a former President of the Granddaughter''s of the American Revolution. She belonged to Warner Gear Sympathy Club, volunteered with the Senior Citizens Center of Forest Park Schools; loved to read; was an avid angel collector; and belonged to euchre clubs.
Surviving relatives include her son, Harley Carney of Warsaw, IN; brother Thomas Reason of Muncie; sister Gloria Duncan (husband, James) of Farmland; 3 grandchildren: David Carney (wife, Tina); Kevin Carney (wife, Tammy); and Mark Carney (wife, Teresa); 10 great grandchildren: Roberta Carney; Danniel Carney; Katherine Carney; Kiersten Carney; Quentin Carney; David Carney, Jr.; Kasey Carney; Michael Carney; Matthew Carney; and Kylie Carney; and step-great grandchild Cody Napier.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 54 years, Hubert Carney; son Roland Carney; 3 brothers; and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 22, 2010 at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Pastor Forrest Bowers will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie. Visitation will also be on Monday, February 22, 2010 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
