Mary Ellen DuBois Scott, age 75, of Portland, passed away Friday, December 16, 2011 at Jay Co. Hospital. She was born August 30, 1936 in Muncie to H. Hubert and Vertie Marie (Williamson) Smith. Mary was a graduate of Selma High School, Class of 1954 and had a degree in Nursing. She worked at the G.M. Plant in Marion for 25 years in various capacities. She married Willard J.DuBois on May 24, 1954 and he preceded her in death.
She later married Robert G. Scott on July 14, 2001 and he survives along with her sons, Mitch DuBois (wife Vana) of Royerton; daughters, Pam Cochran (husband Bill) of Hartford City, Norma Whitacre (husband Ernie) of Bryant, IN, Renae Epler (husband Kyle) of Portland and Ronda Bailey (husband Bevan) of Portland; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded also in death by her parents, brother, William H. Smith and one grandson LCpl. Andrew Whitacre.
Mary was a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose, V.F. W. Post # 651, American Legion Post #19, Eagles, AMVETS and the Independent Order of Foresters. She was also a bus driver for Bear Creek Farms and owned Mary''s Herb Shop.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie, 47303 with Pastor Paul VanCise officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to The Little Red Door of Muncie, The American Diabetes Association, The American Heart Assoc. or Bryant First Responders.
