Mary Irene Thompson went home to be with the Lord Tuesday May 2, 2023.  Born March 19th, 1935 to Leonard and Ruby Morrison.  Irene is survived by her three children, Gary Thompson, Pam Roderick (husband Robert) and Ronda Eckerty (husband Doug).  She is also survived by grandchildren, Andrew Thompson, Seth Thompson, Shelley Huntington, Rob Roderick, Leslie Eckerty and Kevin Eckerty, along with several great grandchildren.  Irene was preceded in death by her husband Frederick Thompson.

Irene's great joy in life was spending time with her family, especially the grandkids.  Irene was also known for her generous and kind spirit.  Her favorite holidays were Christmas and Thanksgiving when the entire family could be together for a big meal and a lot of fun.  Irene spent countless hours shopping for Christmas gifts, always making sure everyone had an equal number of presents to open.  Friends and neighbors were always welcome to join in the festivities and frequently did.

Irene also loved gardening and mowing her yard on her John Deere tractor.  In her final day she was surrounded by family and visitors who visited in person and by phone and FaceTime.  She told more than one visitor that she would be watching for them in heaven.  She was very appreciative of the care she received from her doctors during her final days and openly expressed on more than one occasion that her male doctors were very handsome.

Visitation will be held on Monday May 8, 2023 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM.  Both will be held at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 IN 3, Muncie, IN 47303.  Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery after the funeral service.
