Mary Jane McCreery, 94, of Muncie, IN, died Sunday, December 13, 2009, at her residence in Muncie. She was born September 24, 1915 in Bluffton, IN, the daughter of Garfield and Luella (Doughtery) Robbins. On February 21, 1941 she married Gene McCreery of Gaston, IN
She was a loving mother and faithful wife for 67 years. She was a teacher of home economics. She was an excellent seamstress and cook. She specialized in the practical art of home making. She enjoyed traveling with her husband as representatives of the United States Government. She was an advocate of traditional women's roles in the family. She made her home a place for foreign colleagues to share socially with her family while supporting her husband's job responsibilities. Mary was a past president of the McRae Club in Muncie and was honored to be elected. She graduated from Ball State Teacher's College and was the homecoming queen her senior year.
Jane is survived by two sons; Dr. Richard A. McCreery (wife, Barbara L. (Hodgin) McCreery) and John T. McCreery, AIA, (friend, Darlene Duchene); four grandchildren: Scott, Shannon, Jennifer and Zachariah, and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Hershel and Joseph Robbins.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 17, 2009, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3, Muncie, IN. Funeral services will be held at the Gaston United Methodist Church in Gaston, IN, at 10:00 AM, Friday, December 18, 2009. Pastor John Long will officiate. Burial will follow at Thompson Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Gaston United Methodist Church or the McRae Club.
