Mary Lois Hurst Turner passed away on Wednesday, March 7 at Ball Memorial Hospital. Mary lived a full life. She was loved by many and will be missed.
Mary was born July 18, 1929 on the southside of Muncie. Her parents were Ruby (Beasley) and William Taflinger. She was the third of seven children. Mary graduated from Muncie Central High in 1948. She married Fred Hurst and they had five children—Julie Hobbs (husband, Larry), Steve (wife, Joyce), Chris Hofherr (husband, David), Jackie Reese (husband, Randal), and Kat Davis (husband, Mike). Mary was the grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Mary and Fred owned and operated Hurst TV Service from 1960 to 1977 when Fred died. Mary was a precinct committee person, an officer of Phi Sigma Alpha, member of the Blaine PTA and Avondale Sympathy Club and belonged to WISKAKA Friendship Club. Mary and Fred were active members at Gethsemane United Methodist Church. Mary loved to travel, play cards, and spend time with her family.
Throughout their children's lives Fred and Mary were friends with Donald and Mary Turner. In 1984, after the deaths of both their spouses, Mary Hurst became Mary Turner. Mary became the step-mother to Don's three grown children—Joyce Johnson (husband, Tim), Frank (wife Jackie), and Margaret Bell (husband, Rob). Mary worked as a baker at the Village Pantry from 1982—1992.
Mary is survived by three brothers William, Kenneth, and Larry Taflinger and a sister Patricia Gruwell. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, two husbands, two sisters—Gloria Taylor Yarborough and Lucille Elwood. Aunt Mary was much loved by many nieces and nephews.

Mary has requested colorful attire—limited black. This is a celebration of a life well lived.
