Maryellen Echols, 80, of Muncie, IN died Saturday December 1, 2007 at her residence. She was born on September 7, 1927 in Upland, IN the daughter of Kenneth W. and Rosanna (Hickman) Scott. She graduated from Royerton High School in 1945 and attended Ball State and Purdue University. On December 15, 1945 at the Eden Congregational Christian Church she married John L. Echols who preceded her in death in 1982.
She worked at the Industrial Trust and Savings Bank for several years. Her and her husband were the owners and operators of the Ackers Engines for over 15 years. She was a girls 4H leader for many years and was a member of the Wonder Wives Home Ec Club. She was a substitute teacher at the Wapahani Schools and enjoyed sewing for many years.
Surviving relatives include one daughter, Jane Wilkinson (Kenneth) Muncie, IN; two sons, Mike Echols (Marie) of Tennessee; Scott Echols (Laurie) of Tampa, FL; three brothers, Ted Scott (Avo); Tom Scott (Frances); Don Scott (Sue) all of Muncie; seven grandchildren, Mollie and Emily Echols of Florida; Trev Echols (Jenny) of Summertown, TN; Marni Bell (John) of Perry, GA; Greg Wilkinson (Melissa) of Indianapolis, IN; Brad Wilkinson of Galloway, OH; Doug Wilkinson (Tara) of Lexington, KY; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one daughter-in-law, Sandy Echols.
A graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday December 4, 2007 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery 10703 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Pastor Donald Scott will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN is assisting the family with the arrangements.
