Martha Alice Leffingwell, 92, of Hartford City, died at 4:35 a.m. Friday, January 22, 2010 at Ball Memorial Hospital.
She was born on March 21, 1917 in Upland to the late Charles E. Stroup and the late Virgie E. (Johnson) Stroup.
Martha graduated from Jefferson Township High School in Upland in 1935 and studied bookkeeping thru LaSalle University.
She married Chalmer "Chal" Dale Leffingwell on June 26, 1937 in Grant County. He precedes her in death on August 13, 2005.
Martha worked at the Blackford County Courthouse for seventeen years with Max Hile, she was the Blackford County Deputy Clerk of Circuit Court for nine years and she later was the Clerk of Circuit Court in Blackford County for eight years. She retired in 1982.
She attended Oak Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Oak Chapel Woman's Circle.
Martha will be sadly missed by her sons, Gordon Hal (wife, Melanie Rose) Leffingwell of Safety Harbor, Florida; Richard Lee (wife, Ruth A.) Leffingwell of Elwood; daughter, Evelyn L. (husband, David L.) Dailey of Hartford City; grandchildren, Deadra (husband, James) Dalton, Robert C. (wife, Monica) Leffingwell, Jim J. (wife, Mary) Leffingwell, Kristina A. Rubidoux and Ryan W. Leffingwell; six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; half brother, Donald W. (wife, Janet) Stroup of Brethren, Michigan; sister-in-laws, Hazel Peer of Hartford City; Mildred Masters of Bryant; several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her half brother, Charles Stroup.
Visitation for Martha will be from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 and from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St., Hartford City, IN.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Keplinger Funeral Home with Rev. Al Soultz of Fairmount Wesleyan Church officiating and Rev. Seth Harshman of Oak Chapel United Methodist Church assisting.
Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie.
