Maurice (Maury) Bechdol passed away on October 25, 2007 in Muncie, IN of natural causes.
Born on March 31, 1923 in Cass County, Logansport, Ind. to Wilbur and Ester Bechdol. Maury was a decorated veteran serving on the front lines of WWII in the European theatre. He received a purple heart and bronze star for heroic achievement.
Mr. Bechdol was the owner and operator of the Yorktown Grain Corporation for 42 years, during which time he faithfully followed the Yorktown Tiger basketball team as the score keeper and served as an elder in the Methodist church community. In his mid-years of life he became certified and worked as a commodities broker and a realtor. Later in life he worked as a federal grain inspector and developed talent as a wood worker. Maury was passionate about country music, sports, animals and his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Ester Bechdol, his wife Mary Marcy Bechdol and his son Mike Elliott.
He is survived by his daughter Marcy Elliott Pompei, husband Steve and granddaughter Lynsey in Santa Fe, NM; his close friend Sonny Gibson and his devoted felines, Cally and Hedi.
Burial has taken place at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie, IN and a memorial service will be held in late November in Maui, Hawaii.
