Melvina Jane Hurst, 80, of Muncie, IN died Friday January 19, 2006 at her residence. She was born on October 21, 1926 in Muncie, the daughter of Melvin N. and Sylvia M. (Long) Bird. She graduated from Muncie High School in 1944. On June 15, 1947 she married Forrest Hurst.
She worked for Doctor Phil Ball and Doctor Charles Routh for several years and retired in 1994. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Westside Church of Christ and always gave out good advice.
Surviving relatives include her husband of 59 ½ years, Forrest Hurst of Muncie, IN; one son, Dennis E. Hurst (wife: Debbie) of Muncie; one daughter, Julie A. Barker (husband: Don) of Muncie; one brother, Robert G. Bird (wife: Carolyn) of Muncie; four grandchildren, Ben Hurst; Joshua Hurst; and Tiffany Young all of Muncie; Megan Cambell of Indianapolis; two step-grandchildren, David Barker of Muncie, IN and Nick Barker of Dandridge, TN. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren and one brother-in-law Cledith Hurst. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Services will be 10 a.m. on Monday January 22, 2006 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 in Muncie. Pastor Larry Reynolds will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
