He was born in Blackford County on September 28, 1924 to J. Earl Stanley and Grace (Marshall) Stanley. Both parents precede him in death.
Merrill graduated from Hartford City High School in 1943. He married Fostine Louine (Cheesman) Stanley on September 25, 1949 at the former E.U.B. Church now Trinity United Methodist Church. Merrill retired from St. Joe Paper in Hartford City in 1988 after thirty-four years of service.
He was a member of the Hartford City Wesleyan Church in Hartford City. He was a Sunday school teacher and especially enjoyed the two-year old class that he and Fostine had taught. Fostine and Merrill conducted Bible Studies at local nursing homes and really enjoyed their nursing home Bible Ministry. He was dedicated to hard work, family and his church. He also enjoyed gardening and flowers.
If not for the loving and caring staff at Heritage Pointe the family feels they would not have had Merrill for the past year and a half.
