Mildred B. Nottingham, 99, of Muncie, passed away January 3rd, 2014, at Westminster Village, Muncie.
She was born November 3rd, 1914, a daughter of Clyde and Sarah (Leafgreen) Bell, of Muncie. On June 7th, 1939, she married Wendell Nottingham, who preceded her death on March 16th, 1998.
Mildred graduated from Royerton High School in 1932. She received her bachelor''s degree and master''s degree from Ball State (College) University.
Mildred taught elementary grades at DeSoto, Harrison Township, and Gaston for 27 years. She was a former member of the Harrison-Washington Classroom Teachers Association, Indiana State Teachers Association, and National Education Association. She also was a member of Mt. Olive Community Church since 1939 and a member of the Home Advancement Home Economics Club for 70 years.
Mildred is survived by her son, Richard (Anita) Nottingham, of Alexandria; her daughter, Jane Herbst of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; her grandson, Jason (Becky) Nottingham, of Anderson; a great-grandson, Ian Nottingham, a great-granddaughter, Emma Nottingham; a great-niece, Cheryl Fisher; and two great-nephews, Larry Fisher and Jerry (Pauletta) Fisher.
Those preceding her in death include: her husband, Wendell; her parents; two sisters and their husbands, Edna (Clarence) Bisel, and Ruth (Jim) Jones; two brothers, Leonard and Francis Bell, soon after birth; and her only niece, Marilyn Fisher (and her husband, Harold).
The family would like to express its heartfelt appreciation for the great care provided for Mildred by the kind, compassionate, skillful people at IU Ball Memorial Hospital and Westminster Village.
Funeral Services for Mildred will be held privately, with a memorial service at a later date. Entombment will be in Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Garden View Funeral Home.
