Mildred Maxine Martin, 83, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Salyersville, KY and was of Baptist faith and a member of East End Baptist Church in Marion, Va. A loving mother, sister, and friend to all she met, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Martin in 1968; a son, Raymond Martin; and brothers, Marvin and Mirel Gullett. She never remarried and worked hard to raise her kids on her own.
Survivors include son, Don (Kathy) Martin of Whiteland, Indiana; daughters, Sandie Martin of Daytona Beach, FL, Helen (Jerry) Simpson of Johnstown, OH, Joyce (Donnie) McCormick of Marion, VA and Connie (Jamie) Reed of Ormond Beach, FL; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Also a very special sister, Emma (Jim) Turley of South Point, Ohio of whom she loved dearly and loved to visit and talk for hours on the phone, also two special nephews, Matthew (Kristie) Dillon, and Shawn (Shawna) Dillon. She also has two half brothers, Harold and James, and two half sisters Louise and Annabel all of the Ironton, Ohio area.
She loved to sew and crochet. Every stitch was made with love for her family. She was also a Cincinnati Reds fan. She will be missed and her memories cherished by all. Psalms 116:15 precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. Heaven is a little sweeter now. A big hug and thank you to Gail, Evelyn and Grant at Coastal, and the sweet nurses at Vitas Hospice for being so kind to our mother.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 13, 2012 at 2:30 PM at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie, 47303 with Pastor Matthew Dillon officiating. Visitation is from 1:30 PM until service time at the funeral home.
