Nellie Jean Studebaker, 87, of Muncie, IN, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Morrison Woods Health Campus in Muncie. She was born on April 5, 1922 in Eaton, IN to the late Robert and Hazel (Brammer) Martin.
Nellie married the love of her life, Joseph "Ted" Studebaker on September 13, 1941. Nellie was an Eaton High School graduate. She then went on to earn her Master''s Degree from Ball State University. Nellie started teaching business classes at Harrison High School in 1960. She then became a guidance counselor at Wes-Del High School, and was employed for 27 years, retiring in 1987.
Nellie also enjoyed spending time and vacations with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her bridge clubs; visiting Goose Lake; was a member of Phi Delta Gamma; and was a hospice volunteer. Nellie was also an avid Cubs fan. In her later years she went parasailing and hot air ballooning. She is also the last member of The Golden Girls'' (a feisty group of young ladies who enjoyed life).
Nellie is survived by her two sons: Ted Studebaker (wife, Nancy) of Muncie, and Doug Studebaker (wife, Dianna) of Albany; brother Edmund Martin (wife, Barbara); 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ted of nearly 55 years; and 3 brothers: Lawrence, Wayne & Robert, Jr. Martin.
A memorial service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd 3, Muncie, IN. Calling hours will be from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Ball Memorial Hospice Group, 2401 W. University Ave, Muncie, IN. Contribution envelopes will also be provided via the funeral home.
