Nona (Upchurch) Hammel Horstman, 92, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Golden Living Center. She was born on September 23, 1918 in Allardt, TN to the late Walter Thomas and Bethel (Delk) Upchurch. Nona married Glen Edward Hortsman in 1952.
Nona was an inspector at Ball Corporation for 36 years before retiring in 1972. Nona loved holiday gatherings, cookouts, shopping, quilting, and her cabin in Northern Indiana. She belonged to the Ladies Moose and Ball Brothers Ladies Extension. Above all, Nona loved her family to the fullest as she will be sadly missed by all.
Nona is survived by her daughter Judy Moery of Muncie; step-son Robert Horstman (wife, Penny) of Indianapolis; brother Cecil Upchurch (wife, Clarice) of Muncie; 2 sisters: Lucille Porter of Franklin and Lela Reeder of Nashville, TN; 5 grandchildren: Teresa Jett; Marti Anderson (husband, Jeff); Mark Moery; Mitchell Moery (wife, Claudia); and Shannon Miller (companion, Stephanie); 14 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Nona was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Donald R. Hammel; second husband Glen E. Horstman of 46 years; brother Casto Upchurch; and sister Dorine Crabtree.
Nona''s family would also like to extend their gratitude to the Golden Living Nursing Staff for taking such wonderful care of her as well as to Linda & Wayne Rose for their friendship and support.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie as well as on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Warren Willie officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family would also like to invite those attending the funeral ceremony to a luncheon provided at Four Square Gospel Church, 3101 S.
