Norman L. "Jack" Stump, 85, of Avon, IN, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008 at home.
Jack was born on October 1, 1922 to Ora and Margaret (Cole) Stump in Hartford City, IN. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II as a Staff Sergeant with service in the South Pacific.
After service, he joined Indiana Bell Telephone Co., retiring from there in 1982 in a management position after 41 years. Jack was the Past Master of Hartford City Lodge #106 of F&AM.
Jack will be fondly remembered by his family for his grace, hospitality and the many happy hours spent at his lake home during the annual family golf outing. Jack enjoyed reading numerous daily newspapers, fishing, and he was an avid bird watcher.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Mildred A. (Middie) Black, whom he married, April 23, 1977; daughters, Melanie A. Stump of South Bend, IN, Jana L. Foster of Carmel, IN, and Elizabeth E. (Beth) Marghilano of Las Vegas, NV; grandsons, James C. Coates (Cristy), Plainfield, IN, Robert N. Coates, Los Angeles, CA, and G. Christopher Stump, South Bend, IN; granddaughter, Sarah M. Coates of Indianapolis, IN; great-grandsons, Zakk R. Clark, Plainfield, IN, and Tavian A. Eastman, Zionsville, IN.
He was preceded in death by his only son, Daniel S. Stump; and granddaughter, Katherine S. (Katie) Coates, both of New Castle, IN.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Speedway.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2008 at the funeral center. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory, Muncie, IN.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in the name of the deceased.
