Novella Jean Herdt of New Castle, Indiana passed away at the age of 91 the morning of Monday, May 31, 2021 at Stonebrook Rehabilitation Center in New Castle. She was born on March 2, 1930 in Muncie, Indiana to the late Gus and Grace (Lanning) McAdams.
Novella married Russell Herdt. She worked as a caregiver in the healthcare industry until her retirement in 1989. She was a loving wife and mother. She attended the East 16th Street Separate Baptist Church in Muncie, Indiana. She enjoyed playing the piano.
Novella is survived by her sons, William B. Franklin, Jr. of Venice, Florida, Tony J. Franklin of Muncie, Indiana, and Randall T. Franklin of Moreland, Indiana; daughters, Debbie K. Cox of Losantville, Indiana and Jill E. Hicks of Yorktown, Indiana; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Novella was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Grace (Lanning) McAdams; husband, Russell Herdt; and brother, Bill McAdams.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM in Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3, Muncie with funeral services immediately following at 2:00 PM, also in the Funeral Home, officiated by Jimmie Hamm. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Visit cancer.org for more information. UPDATE: Following the burial, dinner will be privided at East 16th Street Separate Baptist Church, 2200 E. 16th Street, Muncie, Indiana 47302.
COVID-19 Limitations: Effective Monday, February 8, 2021, Garden View Funeral Home and Gardens of Memory Cemetery are limited to a maximum of 50 people wearing masks inside or outside. Once the maximum is reached, additional visitors will be permitted for entry only as others exit. Again, masks are still required at both locations.
