Opal Irene Goodnight, 99 ½, of Muncie, died Wednesday morning, January 30th, 2013, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born July 31st, 1913 in Marion, IN., and was the daughter of the late Evert Clarence & Ivy Frances (Antrim) Woolman.
Opal was the last surviving charter member of St. Paul''s United Methodist Church. She was very active and enjoyed church greatly. She was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and raising flowers. Opal and her late husband James E. Goodnight enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and to Australia. She remained very active in the management of her rental properties.
Opal is survived by four children, "Sonny" Clarence A. Goodnight (Carmen) of Miami FL., Juanita J. Norem (Garry) of Ft. Wayne, Sharon S. Sylvester of Chicago, IL., and Ruth A. Maya of Houston, TX.; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James E. Goodnight, a daughter Dorothy J. Blatt, a son Larry D. Goodnight, and a grandson Donald Goodnight.
Funeral Services for Opal will be held Monday, February 4th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul''s United Methodist Church, 1707 East 26th Street, Muncie with Pastor Nancy Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 12-6 p.m., Sunday February 3rd, 2013 at Garden View Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul''s United Methodist Church, 1707 East 26th Street, Muncie, IN 47302.
