Another hard fought battle with that dreaded foe, cancer, was lost. Thursday, June 9, 2011 Marie Marcum passed. She was a trooper to the end. Marie passed at home with family and friends at her side. Marie was born in Jamestown TN. She moved to Muncie with her family at the age of 14. She has resided and worked in Delaware County since then. Marie and her first husband, James Logan, ran small businesses including the Gray Eagle Grocery near Gaston until James'' death in 1977. Since then she had worked at Servomation, Feeny Manufacturing, and Bob Evans Restaurant where she worked as a hostess until 2010. Marie had many passions such as gardening, crocheting, playing Euchre, bargain shopping at garage sales, and traveling with her husband, Doug Marcum, and friends Bob and Ginny Lawson. She also loved bluegrass music, often attending local festivals.
Marie is survived by her husband, Doug Marcum, whom she married January 23, 1988; son, Joe (Betty) Logan; daughter Brenda Justice; grandson, Brian (Amy) Justice; granddaughter, Patricia Justice; and two precious great grandsons, Keadon and Aiden; three brothers, James, Noble (Janet) and O.G. (Linda) Conaster; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Logan, mother, Cora Owens, and brothers Owen and O.D. Conaster. Marie''s husband and children would like to thank all of the family and special friends who stood by in their time of need. Your support and prayers were so much appreciated. Thanks also to Dr. Fisher, the staff at the Cancer Center and the compassionate people from Hospice. We as a family were truly blessed to have all of you.
Services to celebrate the life of a brave and wonderful wife, mother and friend will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie, IN 47303. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday at the funeral home from 2:00 to 4:00 and 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Ball Memorial Hospice.
