Ora Frederick Vandenplas, 85, of Muncie, died Thursday morning March 19th, 2015 at Signature Health Care of Muncie. He was born April 2nd, 1929 in Muncie, and was the son of the late Charles & Lavinia (Shaw) Vandenplas.
Ora is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Jacqueline (Hickle) Vandenplas of Muncie, whom he married February 25th, 1956; a son Charles H. Vandenplas (Josie) of Clintonville, WI; a daughter Sharon A. Beaty (Tim Southworth) of Indianapolis; two grandsons, Charles H. Vandenplas II and Phillip L. Beaty II (Megan Dixon) both of Muncie; great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother Herbert Vandenplas; two sisters Mary Etta Delk and Edna Mae Walker.
Ora enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching sports. He enjoyed watching the Colt''s and the Pacer''s. Ora retired in 1983 from Indiana Steel & Wire after 31 years of service. He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army. Ora was a member of the Forrest Park Church of the Nazarene.
Funeral Services for Ora will be held Monday, March 23rd, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, with Pastor David Delk officiating. Burial with military honors being conducted by the United States Army and the Delaware County Honor Guard will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 22nd, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
