Paul James "Jim" Welty, age 72, of Muncie, passed away Friday, January 20, 2012 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Jim was born March 5, 1939 in Muncie to Paul H. and Phyllis (Edwards) Welty. He was a graduate of Muncie Central High School, Class of 1956 and later graduated from Tri State College with honors in 1965 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in the Bahamas and Puerto Rico as well as Indiana Bridge and Baystone of Muncie. He retired as Chief Engineer in 2010 from Gale Tschuor Company. Jim was an avid fisherman and enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles. He attended North Delaware Baptist Church and was a member of American Society of Civil Engineers and Sertoma.
He married the former Louise Wilkins on August 25, 1962 in Muncie and she survives him along with son, David Welty of Tampa, FL; daughter, Bonita Byman (husband Gregory) of Huntertown, IN; brothers, Michael Welty (wife Judy) of Muncie, John Welty (wife Mejo) of San Angelo, TX and Max Welty, of New Palestine, IN; sisters, Teresa Brower and Peggy Welty, both of Muncie; grandchildren Joel, Grant ,Karysa and Janae Byman; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie, 47303 with Pastor James Marlow and Pastor Gregory Byman officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, January 22 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions to North Delaware Baptist Church or the charity of the donor''s choice.
