Peter Victor "Pete" Mattucci, 89, passed away Monday evening, February 1, 2010 at Morrison Woods.
He was the oldest of seventeen children, born June 28, 1920 in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, the son of Mary (Prudhomme) Mattucci and Dominick Mattucci. Pete started working in the coal mines in Pennsylvania at the age of sixteen. He then served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sgt. in the 78th Infantry Division; Hdq. Company, 311th Infantry. He participated in the Normandy Campaign; Battle of the Bulge and the Liberation of Germany. Following the war Pete started working with G.M. in Pittsburg then moved to the Muncie area where he worked at G.M. Marion plant. He retired in 1986.
His memberships include the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church; U.A.W. Local #977; the American Legion; V.F.W. and the Holiday Rambler's Camping Club.
Survivors include two sons, Franklin Mattucci, (wife, Susan), Florida and Peter J. Mattucci, (wife, Barbara), Gaston; two brothers, Bruno Mattucci, Pennsylvania and Edward Mattucci, (wife, Peggy), Pennsylvania; three sisters, Lorraine Communale, Pennsylvania, Eva Stough, Anderson, Indiana and Mary Bastich, (husband, Paul), Kokomo, Indiana; one granddaughter, Victoria Mattucci; five sisters-in-law, Dolly Mattucci, Rose Mattucci, Sarah Mattucci, Martha Casagrande and Mary Taddeo; a special friend, Pete Rychak and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara L. (Taddeo) Mattucci, who passed away March 31, 2008; five brothers, Benedict Mattucci, Joe Mattucci, Albert Mattucci, Emelio Mattucci and Dominick Mattucci; and two sisters, Gloria Scally and Antoinette Mattucci.
Services will be held 11:30 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2010 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor John Malzahn and Pastor Tracy Paschke-Johannes officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie, with Military Rites by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Family and friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Friday or after 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
