Phillip C. Elser, 68, passed away September 26, 2010 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie following a brief illness.
He was born December 20, 1941, in Muncie, the son of Carl and Dorothy (Swallow) Elser.
Phil was a 1959 graduate of Royerton High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from Purdue University in 1964. He retired from Indiana Steel & Wire after thirty-four years of employment. Phil was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where he served on the church council. He was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Muncie Jaycee's, ASTM Fellow, and a fourth degree Knight of Columbus. Phil enjoyed golfing, bowling and travel.
Survivors include his children, Phil "John" Elser (wife, Pam), Colorado, Lisa Knox (husband, Dwight), Muncie, Laura Elser (partner, Angelina), Oregon, John Verbrugge, Muncie, Joe Verbrugge (wife, Linda), California, Jerry Verbrugge (wife, Jenny), Westfield, Jaime Verbrugge (wife, Christina), Illinois; three sisters, Carlene Bland, Wabash, Marsha Nuerge (husband, Richard), Muncie and Jeanette Webb, Georgia; four grandchildren, Dustin, Danielle, David and Trevor; several nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Carol (Verbrugge) Elser.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Muncie with Father Weldon officiating. Inurnment will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie.
Family and friends may call from 8-9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
