Phyllis Jean Simmons, 81 of Gaston died Monday, January 2, 2017, at her home. She was born March 9, 1935 in Owingsville, Kentucky and was the daughter of John William and Emma Mae (Purvis) Vanlandingham.
Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, traveling, dancing and being with people. Phyllis retired in 1970 from the Veterans Hospital in Marion.
Phyllis is survived by two sons Francis Gene Simmons (Pamela Selleck) of Gaston and Felix Wayne Simmons (Amber) of Muncie; two grandchildren Scott Simmons (Ashley) of Daleville and Christina Shipley (Tony) of Gaston; six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Francis Earl Simmons in 1989 and five sisters and four brothers.
Funeral Services for Phyllis will be held Friday, January 6, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
