Ray Vernie Applegate, Sr., 88, loving husband, father, and grandfather has gone to be with the Lord after a long fight with cancer on October 17, 2008. He was born on February 12th, 1920 in Indianapolis , IN the son of Carl and Mabel (Miller) Applegate. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served at Corporal with the 150th field artillery during World War II. On November 22, 1944 he married Marjorie (Beymer) Applegate who survives.
Ray retired from the Rail Road in 1983 after 31 years of service. He loved to travel, going to flea markets, working with his hands and spending time with family. He served as an Ambassador of Jesus Christ.
Surviving relatives include his loving wife of 63 years, Marjorie Applegate of Muncie; two sons and two daughters, Ray V. Applegate, Jr. (wife: Yolanda) of Texas; Terry W. Applegate (wife: Ramana) of Ft. Wayne, IN; Teresa M. Ingram (husband: Larry) of Selma, IN; Marsha (Brooke Meador) Applegate of Muncie, IN; seven grandsons, Keith Abercombie, Jr.; Charles Allen Murray; Jonathan, Jared, and Jordan Applegate; Mark Lupercio; Terry "Bink" Wright; five granddaughters, Angela Morrison; Lydia Brown; Lisa Bautista; Christina Applegate; Monnie Applegate; ten great-grandchildren, Kain, Remedy, Taylor, Harley, Joseph, Danielle, Tony, Todd, Seth, Lucas, and Kiana; two great-great-grandchildren, Riley and Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Sandra Kay Applegate.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday October 22, 2008 at Muncie Christian Center 1824 S. Walnut St. Muncie , IN. Pastor Tim King will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie . The Delaware County Honor Guard will honor Ray with military rites at the cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church. Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN is assisting the family with the arrangements.
