Richard "Rick" Alan Grimes

Richard "Rick" Alan Grimes, 59, of Eaton, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 15, 2025.

Rick was born on June 16, 1966, in Muncie, Indiana, to Richard Dee Grimes and Loretta Louise Irwin Grimes at Ball Memorial Hospital. He attended Yorktown Elementary School through the fourth grade before transferring to Heritage Hall Christian School, where he graduated. During his school years, Rick enjoyed playing soccer and basketball, sang in the choir, and played tuba in the band.

Following graduation, Rick proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During basic training he became an expert marksman, carrying on a family tradition shared with his grandfather Irwin. He was honorably discharged after suffering a leg injury while playing soccer aboard a ship in Israel.

After his service, Rick worked as a cook before joining Dave and Brian Blair in their business. He later began working at Ball Memorial Hospital as a mechanic, where he spent several years. It was there that he met and married Collette Brown Combs. Together they welcomed a daughter, Jade Nicole Grimes, who was the light of Rick's life. He was endlessly proud to be her father.

In his free time, Rick enjoyed woodworking, reading, gardening, and taking part in historical reenactments. He was also an avid gun collector, a skilled marksman, and loved fly fishing. Rick had a special love for his dogs—two Sheepdogs and two German Shepherds—who brought him great joy.

Rick is survived by his mother, Loretta Louise Grimes Hiatt; his father, Richard Dee (Deni) Grimes; his beloved daughter, Jade Nicole Grimes (fiancé Jay Tarlton); his sister and "favorite pain in the butt," Daphne Grimes Rhodes; along with several nieces, nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bennie Cline Grimes and Geneva Bell Grimes, and Curtis Gilbert and Lila Lee McGriff Irwin; his uncle, Bennie Gene Grimes; cousins Jeff and Doug Grimes; and his nephew, Dustin Richard Rhodes.

A visitation to celebrate Rick's life will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Road 3, Muncie, IN 47303. A celebration of life dinner will be held at The Garden of Gethsemane, 1201 W. McGalliard Rd. Muncie, IN 47303, after celebration life service.
