Richard H. "Dick" Benadum, 86, went to be with the Lord Saturday afternoon, March 12, 2011 at his residence with his loving wife at his side following an extended illness.
He was born on October 18, 1924 in Delaware County the son of Walter H. and Faye C. (Williams) Benadum and attended Cowan High School. He was also a shipfitter in the US Navy serving in Siapan during WW II.
Mr. Benadum was a cabinet maker at Ball State University for twenty-one years prior to his retirement in 1986. Previously he was also a finish carpenter. After his retirement his hobby was his wood working shop in which he made various items for people.
He was a member of the Oakville First Brethren Church, New Castle Moose Lodge #147, and VFW Post #1282.
Dick was one of the original members of the first Cowan Volunteer Fire Department with which he remained active for many years.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-two years, JoAnn; a son, David Benadum (wife, Linda), Holland, MI; a daughter, Kathy Maul (husband, Jim), Muncie; and two grandsons, Ash and Jason Benadum, both of Holland, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marshall Benadum; and a sister, Kathryn Scheerer.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2011 in The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Paul Reeder officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie with Military Rites by Veterans of Delaware County.
Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday or one hour prior to services on Friday.
