Richard E. "Dick" Smith, 82, passed peacefully from this life, Thursday night, January 28, 2010 at the Morrison Woods Health Campus in Muncie, IN.
Mr. Smith was born in Muncie, September 6, 1927. He attended and graduated Harrison Township School, class of 1945.
He served in the U.S. Army, 1945-1948, during the occupation of Germany and distinguished himself with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was reactivated in 1950, serving with the Muncie U.S. Army Reserves, again serving in Germany, after which he received an honorable discharge.
Mr. Smith was employed by Texaco Inc, from where he retired with 35 yrs of dedicated service. He was transferred over his career with Texaco from Muncie, IN to Ironton, OH to Cincinnati, OH to Louisville, KY and finally to Detroit Michigan, where he retired in 1983.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Muncie Lodge #433 F. & A.M., where he was raised to the 32nd degree. He was a member of the Muncie Elks Lodge #245, served as President of the Ironton, OH Boys Club, and was a member of his beloved Mt Olive Community Church.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Barbara Fisher Smith, Muncie; his two sons, Richard A. Smith, Muncie; Robin E. Smith (wife-Jacklyn), Charles Town, WV. Also Barbara's two sons, Rob Fisher (wife-Linda) and Randy Fisher; her daughter, Beth Van Pelt (husband-Terry), all from Muncie: fourteen grandchildren, Robert Sean King, Richard Anthony King and Eric Hammond, Louisville, KY; Robin Eugena Wright, New Market, MD; Carl Geoffrey Smith, Inwood, WV; Nicholas David Becotte, Hagerstown, MD; Mark Anthony Woods, Charles Town, WV; Chad Fisher, Greenfield, IN; Katie Fisher Pellerin (husband-Isaac), Indianapolis, IN; Andy Fisher, Cory Fisher, Nicholas Van Pelt, Emily Fisher, and Christopher Van Pelt, all from Muncie; seven great grandchildren; three siblings, Jacquelin Smith Wilson (husband-Dick), Biloxi, MS; Charles E. Smith (wife-June), Houston, AR, and Larry M. Smith, Muncie; sister-in-law, Eleanor Sparks Smith, Muncie; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. (2 of 2)
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. and Artie E. Smith of Muncie; his wife of 46 years, Martha L. Huffman; his daughter, Cynthia Lynn Smith King; a grandson, Randal Wesley King, and his brother, Michael J. Smith.
Services will be on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Rd., Yorktown at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Rodney Eiler officiating.
Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie.
Friends and Family may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel on Monday, February 1, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with Masonic rites at 6:30 p.m. or one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
