Richard Dean Gott, 77, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Bartow Regional Medical Center in Bartow, Florida. Richard was the oldest child of Henry and Mary Gott. He was born in Muncie, Indiana on June 5, 1944. He was a graduate of Yorktown High School in 1962, where he participated on the cross-country team.
After graduation, he served in the United State Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After serving in the Marines, he began his career in the Muncie branch of the U.S. Post Office. Later he got into painting houses with his father. He moved to Florida in 1981 and worked as a painter throughout his life. Richard loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed bowling, pool, and coin collecting.
Richard is survived by his sons, Ryan Gott (Michelle) and Bracken Gott (Trey Hicks); brother, James Gott; sister, Lois (Gott) Hitchens; half-sister, Nancy Gott; nieces, Deena (Hitchens) Crouch (Steven) and Julie (Gott) Mckutchen (Kevin); and nephew, Trey Gott. He is also survived by grandsons, Austin Gott, Brandon Gott, and Tannon Claxton; granddaughter, Brandilel Claxton; and great-grandson, Lincoln Claxton.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Gott; brother-in-law, Mark Hitchens; uncle, Herman Gott (Ruth); aunt, Bertha (Gott) Moore; and grandparents, Edith and Ralph Herrick and James and Zella Gott.
A private gravesite funeral service for the family will be held at Gardens of Memory in early September.
