Richard Wayne McAlister, 74 of Marion, died peacefully early Sunday morning, May 28, 2017 at his residence. He was born August 29, 1942 in Georgetown, KY and was the son of the late Allphin Winfield McAlister and Louise Chinn Melvin (Giles)
Richard retired from General Motors Fisher Body of Marion after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the UAW Local 977, the Moose Lodge of Marion. Richard was an avid college basketball fan and loved watching the Indiana Hoosiers and the Kentucky Wildcats. He had a love for motorcycles and his cars. Richard was a great American Patriot. He was most proud of being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Richard is survived by his three children, Terry McAlister (Darla) of Thorntown, Todd McAlister (Pamela) of West Harrison, IN and Dana McAlister of Marion; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; a sister Mary Rose (Bob) of Anderson; three brothers Gayle McAlister (Marlaina) of Marion, Mike McAlister (Michelle) of Mt. Summit and Patrick McAlister of Mt. Summit. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Allphin Winfield McAlister, Jr and Kenny Melvin.
A Memorial Service to honor the life of Richard will be held Saturday June 3, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family wishes to extend a special thanks of gratitude to Angels of Mercy and Heart to Heart Hospice.
