Obituary

Richard M. Potts, 86, of Muncie passed away Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Ball Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born August 12, 1924 in Washington, Indiana to Hallie Alton and Elvinia (Muir) Potts. Richard attended Cowan High School. He was a truck driver at T.B. & P. Express and Brada -Miller Frist Systems for twenty-three years and retired in 1987.
Richard proudly served his county in the U.S. Army during WW II from April 9, 1943 to December 14, 1945 and was in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Serving in Company A 94th Medical Gas Treatment Battalion. He was a member of American Legion Post 321 in Yorktown, 40 & 8 #955 of which he was a Past National Officer and State Officer, R.S.V.P., member of United Veterans Council of Delaware County and was very active with the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Survivors include a step-son, Ronald Lee Shope, Muncie; two nephews, Terry Potts, Romney, John Huddleston, Florida; four nieces, Carolyn Kantz, Fishers, Nancy Hunt, California, Janice Baker, Franklin, and Ann Skakandy of Florida; and several great nieces.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Shirley (McGahay) Potts; one brother, Alton Potts; two sisters, Betty Mae Huddleston and Alberta Brown.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Parson Mortuary with Pastor Denny Helton officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the mortuary and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
A memorial services will be held by 40 & 8 on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard at Cemetery.
The family request that memorials be given to the American Legion, 40 & 8, or any other veterans organization of your choice.
