Richard Gene Smith, 70, of Muncie, IN, and Marco Island FL, passed away Saturday evening, May 4th, 2013 at his Muncie residence, with his loving family by his side. He went home to be with Jesus. Richard was born January 26th, 1943 in Dayton, OH, and was the son of the late William C. & Rozelle (Burton) Smith.
Richard attended Royerton Schools; he graduated from Yorktown High School in 1961. He was a tool maker by trade. He owned and operated Ken-Bar Tool and Engineering for many years. He gave many young men an opportunity for a promising skill trade. Richard loved his boats at his home in Marco Island, FL, fishing, and vintage cars. He loved his family and especially his great-grandson Landen "Geno". His great-grandson is what kept Richard going for the long year he battled cancer.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Donna Jean (Butler) Smith of Muncie; daughter Eldrenda Bentley of Muncie; son Shane Smith (Jeanette) of Yorktown; grandsons, Derrick Mace (Karina) of Muncie, Justin Smith of Yorktown, and Cody Bentley of Muncie; special great-grandson Landen Gene Mace; brother Bill Smith (Carolyn) of Yorktown; sister Linda Simmons (Joe) of AL; special aunt Lorrell Headrick (Jim); special nephew Doug Simmons, and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Faye Riddle, brother-in-law Bob Riddle, father-in-law Cleatis Butler, and brother-in-law Robert Butler.
Funeral Services for Richard will be held Wednesday, May 8th, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, with Pastor Bob Byers officiating. Entombment will follow in Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. Family and Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7th, 2013 at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
