Richard "Dick" Wayne Shreves, a beloved member of the High Street Methodist Church community, and a man of exceptional skill, kindness, and dedication, passed away on March 17, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and service that will be cherished for generations to come. Born on April 17, 1936, Dick's life was a testament to the power of hard work, integrity, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.
For 23 years, Dick served as the lead mechanic at Woolard's Equipment store, where his expertise, diligence, and commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and customers alike. Known for his keen problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail, Dick approached every task with skill and determination, ensuring that each piece of equipment that passed through his hands was in optimal condition. His dedication to his craft and his willingness to go above and beyond for those he served set him apart as a true leader in his field.
For 10 years, Dick was an active member of the Delaware County 4-H Club, where he dedicated his time and talents to mentoring and guiding young minds. His passion for education, coupled with his genuine care for the well-being of others, made him a beloved figure within the 4-H community. Whether teaching the principles of agriculture, leadership, or citizenship, Dick approached his role with enthusiasm and dedication, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of countless young people.
In addition to his involvement with 4-H, Dick also served as a Cub Master for the Boy Scouts for 10 years, further exemplifying his commitment to youth development and community service. As a Cub Master, he played a pivotal role in shaping the character and values of generations of young boys, instilling in them the importance of integrity, responsibility, and service to others. His leadership, guidance, and unwavering support left an indelible mark on the lives of all who had the privilege of being part of his troop.
In 1988, Dick retired from his position at Woolard's Equipment store, marking the end of a distinguished career filled with achievement and camaraderie. Retirement afforded Dick the opportunity to embark on new adventures, and he eagerly embraced the next chapter of his life alongside his beloved wife, Betty.
Together, Dick and Betty embarked on a joint venture, working side by side at Betty's Alterations. Their partnership was a testament to their shared values of hard work, perseverance, and mutual support, and their presence in the community was a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew them.
Among Dick and his beloved wife Betty's many adventures, their journeys to Florida held a special place in their hearts. Together, they embarked on countless trips to the Sunshine State, where they reveled in the beauty of nature and the freedom of the open road. Central to their Florida escapades was their cherished camper, a symbol of their shared love for adventure and discovery.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 65 years and married April 12, 1958, Betty J. (Taylor) Shreves; his sons, Richard "Rick" (Karin) Shreves of Dunkirk, Indiana, Michael (Annette) Shreves of Fishers, Indiana, and Doug (Connie) Shreves of Daleville, Indiana; his brother, William "Bill" (Margaret) Shreves of Muncie, Indiana; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Edna Mae (Walker) Shreves; his sisters, Linda Ratliff and Rita Darner; and one brother, Jerry Shreves.
Calling hours for friends and family will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Garden View Funeral Home located on 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, Indiana 47303 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM with a funeral service to follow. Dick will be buried at Gardens of Memory Cemetery located on 10703 North State Road 3 Muncie, Indiana 47303.
