Robert L. Persinger, 82, died Monday, June 7, 2010 at Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born January 27, 1928 in Muncie the son of Sidney and Hazel (Brown) Persinger.
Robert graduated from Central High School in 1946.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
Robert retired from Delco Battery after thirty years as a millwright. He was an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, an avid blood donor, enjoyed the family times and all of his dogs.
Mr. Persinger was an U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Clara Persinger, Muncie; six children, C. Kent Persinger, (wife, Garnett), Kevin Persinger, (wife, Karen), Jeff Persinger, (wife, Kandy), Kelly Kirby, (husband, Brad), Julie Johnson, (husband, Tony), and John Persinger, (wife, Lori); twenty-three grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and two nephews, David Grandstaff, (wife, Kristina), Douglasville, Georgia and Chris Grandstaff, (wife, Jennifer), Muncie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bernard and Wendell Persinger; a sister, Dorothy Ann; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Crook, Frances Crook and Marcella Grandstaff; a brother-in-law, Mick Grandstaff, one grandson, Jason Persinger and one granddaughter, Meriah Pauley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday June 10, 2010 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Father Dennis Goth officiating.
Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie. Military rites will be conducted by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel.
