Robert Edward Sanders, 81, of Yorktown, IN, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at The Waters of Yorktown. He was born on September 25, 1927 in Bedford, IN to the late James R. and Bessie (Trotter) Sanders. On June 26, 1948 he married the love of his life, Peggy L. Newlin.
Robert graduated from Paoli High School. He served two years in the Army, from 1951--1953. He also served 18 months in Germany.
Robert worked at Delco Battery for 36 years in Muncie, before retiring in 1982. Robert also worked for Mitch''s Dental Lab after his retirement. He also worked as a custodian for many years for Madison Street Methodist Church. He loved to wood work, golf, and bowl. He loved his family and especially his grandchildren. He was also a member of Mt. Olive Community Church.
Surviving relatives include his loving wife of 60 years, Peggy Sanders; daughter Cindy Gibbs (husband: Mike) of Muncie, IN; brother Darwin Sanders (wife: Margaret) of Dallas, TX; grandchildren Amy Haney (husband: John) of Newburgh, IN and Heather Clawson (husband: David) of Eaton, IN; and great-grandchildren Nicholas & Sarah Haney and the soon-to-be addition to the family, another great-grandson. The Sanders family would also like to acknowledge Judy & Gordon Walker & family .
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Naomi Sanders and Leola Goldman; and brother Carl Sanders.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2009 at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Rev. Rodney Eiler will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be Sunday, June 21, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Mt. Olive Community Church, 5000 N. Nebo 400 W., Muncie, IN 47304 in memory of Robert.
