MUNCIE - Rolland E. Polk, 89, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010, at Ball Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 3, 1921, in Muncie, the son of Jesse and Daisy (Davis) Polk. He attended Muncie schools and graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1939.
Mr. Polk served in the Army during World War II.
He was a machine operator at Warner Gear, after thirty-nine years of service, prior to his retirement in 1989.
He was a member of the Warner Gear Sympathy Club, an avid motorcyclist of over seventy years, a former score keeper and assistant coach for the Muncie Little League team of Local #287; an old time Bearcat fan, a Jeff Gordon Nascar fan, an Indianapolis Colts fan, and had a great love for his Dalmatians.
Surviving are his son, Robin Polk, Dyersburg, Tennessee; his daughter, Merry Miller, (husband, Jack, Sr.), Muncie; nine grandchildren, Sara Polk, Tyler Polk, Heather Polk, Derek Polk, Jackie Miller, Jr., Michael Miller, Kamika Miller, Marcus Miller and Karlos Miller; nine great grandchildren, Robin Polk Sturgis, Cylisha Steinhall, Jackie Steinhall Miller, III, Stephen Steinhall Miller, Michaela Rogers, Michael Miller, Jr., Zyshonne Fagin, Zyarah Fagin and Kensingtan Miller; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Shatto; his nieces, Joan Thornburg, Darlene St. John, (husband, Norm), Linda Garrett, (husband, Larry), Lynn Blair, Betty Ann Vester, (husband, Charles), Belinda Said, (husband, Dwight), Terri Muellenberg, Shari Mench, (husband, Tony), Ramona Shatto, Aubry Stultz, Tawny White Vickie Wallace, and Robyn Blair; and his nephews, Sonny Marks, (wife, Frieda), Joe Marks, (wife, Kali), Chuck White, (wife, Marsha), Clyde Blair, K. C. Blair, Ralph Shatto, Michael Marks, (wife, Jari), Bobby Marks, Zachary White, (wife, Wendy), Travers White and Brian St. John.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia O. (Buis) Polk, to whom he was married fifty-six years, who died in 2006; his daughter-in-law, Wanda Polk; three sisters, Thelma Marks, Dorthea Thomas and Betty Dark; three sisters-in-law, Norma White, Lyda Falls and Daisy Blair; seven brothers-in-law, Bill Marks, Harry Thomas, Billy Dark, Bob White, Jim Falls, Melvin Blair and Nick Shatto; his niece, Billie Jean Dark; and three nephews, Rex Falls, Billy Marks and Butch Thornburg.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at Parson Mortuary. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory where military rites will be conducted by the Delaware County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday and an hour prior to the services on Monday at Parson Mortuary.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
