Ronald I. McCord, 64, of Muncie, IN, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 30, 1946 in Muncie, IN to the late Elmer Theodore and Mary Beulah (Sims) McCord. Ronnie served his country during Vietnam and was awarded a Purple Heart for his bravery. On November 24, 1990 he married Diana Jarrett-Otto in Muncie.
Ronnie was an over-the-road truck driver for many years. He worked for American Central Transport for 5 years as well as Penske Trucking for 5 years. He also worked at Anchor Hocking in Winchester for 13 years. Ronnie retired in 2001. Ronnie enjoyed amusement parks, board games, and above all, his grandchildren. Ronnie was also a faithful member of Riverview Nazarene Church.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Diana McCord; their children: Ron McCord, Jr. (wife, Genie); Crystal Ronnette Watters (husband, Steve); Jimmie McCord (wife, Jeannie); Heather Hutchens (husband, Troy); Gregory Otto; and Jason Otto (wife, Jenny); 6 brothers: Orville McCord (wife, Alberta); Duane McCord; Joe McCord (wife, Beverly); Danny McCord (wife, Margie); Leon McCord (wife, Joyce); and Monty McCord (wife, Vickie); 2 sisters: Evelyn Rutledge (husband, Jim); and Frieda Frey; 14 grandchildren: Stephen Watters; Candace Hutchens; Brandon Hardman; Cody McCord; Levi Watters; Denise White; Darian Stephens; Danielle Stephens; Brittney White; Jackie White; Cheyenne McCord; Nicholas McCord; Jimmie McCord Jr; Brandalin McCord; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary Bogue; and 5 brothers: Robert McCord; Alfred McCord; Darrell McCord; Melvin McCord; and Benny McCord.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 25, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie. The funeral service will be on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor David Shipman officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with military honors given by Ridgeville American Legion Post #507 Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association.
