Obituary

Roy L. Homan, 81, of Parker City, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. He was born in Portland, Indiana on June 29, 1942. Roy was the son of Vinton LeRoy Homan and Ruth Jane Siders (Claude Sr). He was a graduate of Lee Driver High School and married his high school sweetheart, Janet E. Homan (Hoerst) on December 16, 1962.

Roy joined the US Navy out of high school and trained to be an Electronics Technician. After the Navy, he worked in the auto industry including 25 years at Chevrolet Muncie, 2 years at Cybertronics, 15 years at Chrysler, and finally retired from Metaldyne in 2009.

Roy sacrificed much and worked hard to provide very well for his family. He built the family home and several other houses in town. He was the ultimate build and repair man. His kids all knew they could call him (and they did often) for any kind of house advice or to get help with repairs. He had a "grandpa's fix-it shop" in his garage – where all the grandkids (and some neighborhood kids) knew their broken toys could be saved. He also built a large playset in his backyard so that his grandkids and the neighbor kids would have a place to play.

He loved a good comedy and had an unmistakable loud belly laugh. (He will be remembered for that laugh, so it deserved its own paragraph.)

He was an amazing artist – he could paint and draw anything. He also loved to cook for his grown kids and grandkids and created his own recipes. "Gunk", in particular, was a breakfast favorite of the family. He whistled like a songbird while doing all the things that kept him busy. He also loved all animals, especially his and his kids dogs. He enjoyed indulging them with gourmet meals and lots of love and attention. His kids could always get their own dogs revved up by asking, "Do you want to go see Grandpa…"

Roy is survived by his wife, Janet and children: Alana Homan (Sue), Melinda Homan-Wise, Jennifer Hoover (Doug), Douglas Homan (Tonya), Elissa Stafford (Michael); seven (7) grandchildren: Doran Watt (Janel), Hayden Wise, Dane Homan, Gavin Wise, Sophia Homan, and Piper Stafford; two (2) great-grandchildren: Graham Watt, Lillian Watt; his bonus grandchildren: Christi Billings, Ryan Stafford, Joey Dalton, Riley Stafford, and Allie Stafford; and his four (4) siblings: Claude Siders (Gretchen), Phyllis Cotrell (Sam), Gladys Peepels, and Jim Siders ( Sharon).

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and great-grandparents who raised him, Levi and Edith Homan, a brother Carl Siders, a bonus grandchild: Dylan Stafford, and great-grandson, Owen Watt.

Visitation will be held Friday October 20, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, Muncie. Funeral Services to follow at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held inside at the Gardens of Memory Mausoleum with burial at Gardens of Memory.
