Ruth Anna (Thackery) Aldrich Guthrie, 88, passed away, Friday, November 19, 2010 at The Woodlands Nursing Facility in Muncie.
Ruth Anna was born January 13, 1922 in Greensburg, Indiana, the daughter of Walter and Anna Thackery and graduated from Greensburg High School in 1940. That same year, she married the love of her life, Cecil Harrell Aldrich, whom she met in seventh grade marching band.
Ruth Anna and Harrell owned and operated Aldrich Shoe Repair, first opening in Greensburg in 1952 and later moving to a location in Ball State University's village. Ruth Anna also worked at Mutual Federal Savings and Loan in the Mortgage Insurance department until her retirement in July of 1981. After her retirement, Ruth Anna enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, and traveling. Ruth Anna was also a member of the Muncie YMCA, Muncie Kiwanis Club, and the Women of the Moose.
Surviving are her children, Sandra Lawell (husband, Michael J.), Rev. Doris Smith (husband Roy), and Michael Jay (wife, Cindy); her sister, Rita Jean Truax; twelve grandchildren, Joanne Guinn (husband, Troy), Michael M. Lawell (wife, Karen), Catherine Lawell, Christopher Lawell (wife, Michelle), Kelly Sellers (husband, Anthony), Deborah Aldrich, Jennifer Thompson (husband, Timothy), Michelle Huff (husband, Nathan), Angela Michaud (husband, Michael), Joseph Sosh (wife, Carol), and Jeremy Sosh; twenty-one great grandchildren and a special friend, Jean Stephen.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband; a son, Dale "Butch" Aldrich; a brother, Desmond Dale Thackery; a grandson, Joseph Andrew Lawell; and a second husband, Ray Guthrie.
Services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Rev. Doris Smith officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie.
