Samuel Houston Tenpenny Sr., 78 of Muncie, died Thursday afternoon October 25, 2018. He was born March 5, 1941 in Woodberry, TN and was the son of the late Woodrow Houston Tenpenny and Dorothy (Markum) Ferrell.

Samuel retired from New Venture Gear after 32.3 years of dedicated service. He loved farming and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Samuel was a member of the Avondale Sympathy Club.

Samuel is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Mary Ellen (Maynard) Tenpenny of Muncie; three sons Samuel H. Tenpenny Jr., Paul E. Tenpenny (Melissa), and Donald D. Tenpenny (Ted) all of Muncie; three grandchildren Lora Anne Sager (Patrick) of Pendleton, Paul Bradley Tenpenny (Megan) of Washington, and Danielle ReNea Goodman (William) of Portland; four great-grandchildren Kelsey Grace Ayres, Benjamin Shrack, Andrew Shrack and Luke Sager; a half-brother Larry W. Ferrell (Sherrill) of Ohio, two step-brothers Gary Ferrell (Jean) and Autry Ferrell (Christina) both of Tennessee. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father Franklin D. Ferrell and a step-son David Maynard.

Funeral Services for Samuel will be held Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home with Rev. Vance Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
