Sara Ellen DeHaven, 89, of Eaton, departed this life on February 4, 2014, at Miller''s Merry Manor in Hartford City, to be reunited with family and friends in the next. Sara was born September 18, 1924 in Carthage, IN and grew up in Yorktown, IN, with frequent trips to the birthplace of her parents, Barnesville, Ohio.
She lived most of her adult life in Eaton, IN, where she helped care for her nieces and nephews as well as other children, and her parents in later years. Sara was a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ and was an active member of the Assembly of God Church in Hartford City until her health failed. She trained and worked as a beautician. Other interests were gardening, crafts, and embroidery.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews Paul Dennis Tincher, Sue Tincher Heflin, David Tincher, Sally (DeHaven) Wolverton, Sharon (DeHaven) Chilcote, Shireen (DeHaven) Johnson, Matthew L. Barlow, Sr.; children of Helena, Penelope A. Brown, Deb (Brown) Skinner, and Peter J. Brown; great nieces and nephews; and a brother -in-law Coleman Barlow.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents Clifford R. "Frog" and Densey E. (Mahoney) DeHaven; sisters Ruth Anna (DeHaven) Tincher and Nancy Lee (DeHaven) Barlow; brother Samuel E. DeHaven; double cousin raised as a sister, Helena (DeHaven) Brown.
Friends may call on Tuesday February 11, 2014 at the Garden View Funeral Home 10501 N. Indiana 3, Muncie from 1-2p.m. with funeral services immediately following at 2:00p.m. The Reverend Penelope Brown will officiate. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie.
