Obituary

Sharon Jean Jones, 84, of Muncie, IN, passed away on October 11, 2026, peacefully in her home surrounded by family.

The top priorities in Sharon's life were God, family and serving others. She read God's Word daily and served faithfully in the nursery at Trinity Baptist Church in Muncie. She also provided delicious dishes and desserts for church and neighborhood gatherings.

Sharon served in the United States Army from June 1960 – October 1961. She was part of the Women's Army Corp. She worked in finance. She often attended the Veterans Coffee Club monthly breakfast in Muncie. In 2019, she and her husband, Buddie L. Jones, Sr. were honored as veterans in Washington, DC as part of the Indy Honor Flight for their military service.

Sharon worked for several years at Pleasant View Elementary in Yorktown in the cafeteria. Then she worked for 20 years in the Dietetics Department at Ball Memorial Hospital until she retired. Retirement was short[1]lived as she began working part-time for Meals on Wheels. Since 2002, Sharon was a dedicated employee for Meals on Wheels of Muncie where she also voluntarily delivered meals to those in need. Often, she would include handmade gifts for each of her clients.

Sharon married her one and only true love, Buddie Lewis Jones, Sr. on January 27, 1963. She was his faithful companion and wife. They were married almost 63 years until Bud's passing on January 21, 2026.

Sharon was a gifted and selfless woman. She sewed, knitted, crocheted, cooked, made crafts, and designed cards or sent e-cards to almost everyone she knew. She used her talents to celebrate family and friends. She was continually putting others before herself, and she did it joyfully and humbly.

Sharon was a dedicated, loving mother who chose to be a stay-at-home mom until her three children attended school full-time. Working in the school cafeteria allowed her the ability to be home with her children when school was not in session. She epitomized the Proverbs 31 woman. She was a Godly example of love and selflessness to her family. “Well done thy good and faithful servant!”

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Sharlene Utz (Roger); son, Buddie Jones, Jr (Elizabeth); daughter, Jennifer Bowers; grandchildren: Dreama Jones, Quinn Jones, Sharla Angulo (Eric), Josiah Utz (Tairen), Micah Utz (Jordan), and Andrew Bowers; 11 great-grandchildren and brother, Tom Varney (Kayla).

Sharon is preceded in death by her husband, Buddie Jones, Sr; father, Thomas Varney; mother, Janet (Morrill) Varney; brothers, Ray Varney, Stan Varney and sister, Elizabeth Biffle.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meals On Wheels of Muncie, Inc., 2401 W. University Ave., Muncie, IN 47303 or Veterans Coffee Club via the Senior Citizens Center, 2517 W. 8th St., Muncie, IN 47302.
