Shelby Jean Lovis, 85, of Dunkirk, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on April 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving children after a brief illness.
Born in Jacksboro, Tennessee, in 1939 to Delois and Blanche Verla (Raines) Lowe, Shelby was the eldest of 14 siblings and cherished her deep roots in a large, loving family. She graduated from Norma High School in Scott County, Tennessee, in 1958, before making Dunkirk her home.
Shelby dedicated 38 years of service to the glass industry, working with pride and perseverance at Saint-Gobain (formerly Kerr Glass). A proud and active member of the glassworkers' union, she was well-known for her strong work ethic and unwavering support of her fellow workers.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Shelby was a devoted mother to four children: Donna Neal, Marlene Van Bibber, Patricia Lehman, and W. Michael Neal. She was also a proud grandmother to five and great-grandmother to six, deriving immense joy from watching her family grow and thrive.
An avid traveler and a dedicated member of her community, Shelby's life was rich with connection, kindness, and love. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert L. Lovis, and is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her first husband, Wilburn Neal.
Shelby's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, as a woman of strength, compassion, and enduring love.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 10:00 am until noon at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. St Rd 3, Muncie, Indiana 47303. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie, Indiana with Pastor Susan Joy Durovey-Antrim will deliver brief remarks at the gravesite for those who choose to attend .
