IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley S.
Liggett
November 13, 1946 – February 1, 2026
Shirley S. Liggett
November 13, 1946 – February 1, 2026
Shirley S. Liggett, age 79, formerly of Muncie, Indiana of 78 years passed away at her home in Noblesville, IN surrounded by her family on February 1, 2026. Born on November 13, 1946, Shirley was the daughter of Fred and Iva (Knight) Dodd. As the third oldest of seven children, she learned the importance of family early on, growing up in a household where devotion and faithfulness were second nature.
At sixteen, Shirley met the love of her life, Jerry L. Liggett. Those two young souls, in love from the first moment they met, began a journey that would span sixty-two years of marriage. Their story was not merely one of time, but of transformation. Their playfulness and witty humor remained as endearing in their final days as they were in their youth—a lightheartedness fueled by a lifetime of joy and fierce loyalty. As a true power couple, they navigated the world as a singular force, always looking out for one another and remaining steadfastly committed to a "forever" they built with their own hands.
Shirley's heart was always shared between her family and her community. Her business astuteness truly shined when she and Jerry purchased Dave's Shoe Repair in 1978. Under her visionary leadership, the business underwent several successful transformations, ultimately becoming Cobblers Corner, a thriving community staple for seventeen years.
Shirley and Jerry were the rare couple that truly lived on love and danced through life with perfect rhythm. Together, they raised a family rooted in that same devotion. They were blessed with three loving daughters who became the heart of their world: Becky Szalwinski, Rhonda Heaton, and Reashea (Craig) Reed. The family legacy grew to include nine amazing grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom Shirley loved and cherished deeply.
Shirley was a beloved sister to Sandy (Don) Scott, Dean (Teresa) Dodd, and Margie Martin (Paul) She now joins those who preceded her in death: her parents; her brothers, Robert Dodd and Charles Dodd; her sister, Sharon Druckemiller; and her sons-in-law, Mark Szalwinski and Lewis Heaton.
Sixty-two years after it began, Shirley and Jerry's intertwined lives leave behind a beautiful legacy: the living proof that love truly does last a lifetime.
