Shirley Anne Pence, 80 of Hartford City, died late Saturday evening at Albany Health Care & Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. She was born June 1, 1936 in Marion, IN and was the daughter of the late Lionel & Elizabeth (Lewis) Martin.
Shirley retired from Ball Memorial Hospital after 30 years of dedicated service as a licensed practical nurse. She loved spending time with her family and gardening.
Shirley is survived by her son John J. Pence of Hartford City; four grandchildren Donald M. Pence (Dawn) of Muncie, Jeffery J. Pence of Pittsburg, PA, Jamie M. Pence of Eureka, CA and Ty Oliphant (Dustin) of Muncie; a great-grandson Tanner Oliphant; a brother-in-law Jerry Hodge (Linda) of Parker City. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Pence; a daughter Joy Ann Pence; a brother Lionel Martin, Jr., a sister Sandra Van Tickle; two sister-in-law''s Doris Martin and Nancy Walker.
Funeral Services for Shirley will be held Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home with Rev. John Bunch officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
