Steven L. Dummitt, 70, was promoted to Heaven on Friday, November 7, 2025. He was born on October 23, 1955, to Leonard and Judy Dummitt in Muncie Indiana.
He was married 44 years to the love of his life, Linda. He was a loving husband, father to three wonderful children, and a doting "Poppi" to three precious grandchildren.
He was known for his strong Christian faith and deep abiding love for his family.
Steven is survived by his wife Linda Dummitt; sons Michael (Tami) Dummitt and Jacob (Annie) Dummitt; daughter Kari (Steven) Burtner; grandchildren Erik, Izak and Olivia; his mother Judy Dummitt; sisters Sherry (David) McClure and Robin (Lee) Southern and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Dummitt, and niece Shannon McNeely.
Steven graduated high school in 1973 from Wapahani High School in Selma, Indiana, then from Ball State University in 1981 with a double major in Geography and Military History. Obtained his master's degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 1995.
Steven enlisted in the Air Force in 1973 at the age of 17 to become a tail gunner on a B52 bomber. He had dreamed of being in the military ever since he was a child. He served as an enlisted man for five years active and one year in the Reserves reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. After obtaining his degree at Ball State University, he was commissioned into the Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1983. He served his country faithfully until he retired in 1997 at rank of Captain. During the years in the military, Steve received many medals and commendations. He had many duty assignments in the US and overseas.
Steven was a Civil Air Patrol Commander, JROTC Instructor for four years, Adjunct Professor and a college instructor for Ball State University with the Department of Geography, Licensed Lay Minister, Official Chaplain of the Air Force Gunners Association starting in 2024. He met regularly with a group of friends at the Selma Legion on Monday nights. Those nights meant to world to Steve. He was also an active member with the VFW and AMVETS and numerous other organizations.
Visitation will be Monday, November 17, 2025, from 11:00 am until the time of service at Glad Tidings Church (3001 S. Burlington Dr., Muncie, IN). The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm. Steven will be laid to rest at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Muncie.
