Suzan I. Powers, 73, of Muncie, passed away peacefully at her home on April 16, 2026, at 2:28 a.m., following a brief illness. She was born on November 6, 1952, in Muncie, Indiana, to John W. and Mary Lou (Ulmer) Burris. On August 19, 2006, she married James L. Powers, who survives.

Suzan was a graduate of Dunkirk High School and dedicated many years of service as a registration specialist at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. She was known for her strong work ethic and warm presence. She had a joyful spirit and found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Suzan loved music of all kinds and enjoyed dancing whenever she could. She took pride in her home and yard, spending time crocheting, reading, mowing, pulling weeds, and keeping things neat. She was also a talented baker, remembered fondly for her delicious, sweet treats. Above all, Suzan cherished her family. She treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with love, laughter, and care. 

She is survived by her husband of 20 years, James Powers; her son, Michael Callow; stepchildren, Krista Powers, Cory Powers, and Aaron Powers; siblings, Judy (Bruce) Woodard, John Burris, and Cindy (Jamie) Neal; nieces, Katie Neal-Chilcote and Parris Woodard, great-niece Carissa Chilote; grandchildren, Conner (Melissa) Callow, Maci Inman, Molly Callow, Daisy Callow, and Wyatt Callow; great-grandchildren, Trinity and Maciah Driskill, Fulton Lee Callow, and Blakeli Sue Inman. She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Mary Lou Burris; and nephew, Brent Woodard. 

A private burial will be held for immediate family. A celebration of life honoring Suzan will be held on May 3, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Albany Youth Center, where friends and loved ones are welcome to gather and share memories.
