Thelma Hoover Mansfield, 81, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 3, 2009 at Ball Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 28, 1928 in Blackie, Kentucky, the daughter of Elsie (Dean) Ashley and Tom Ashley. Thelma grew up in Jamestown, Tennessee and moved to the Muncie area in the early 1950's. She was a beautician at Amber's in The Meadows for many years before retiring in 1990.
Thelma was a member of Old Town Hill Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She also loved working in her yard and garden.
Survivors include her husband, Lee L. Mansfield, Muncie; one daughter, Sherry Rogers (husband, Randy), Muncie; two grandchildren, Kelly Northcutt (husband, Matt), and Melissa Ariganello (husband, Sam); five great-grandchildren, Zachary Sterling; Ashley Sterling; Matthew Ariganello; Allison Ariganello and Richie Northcutt (wife, Nicole); two great-great grandchildren, Talia Northcutt and Ethan Northcutt; two sisters-in-law, Artema Ashley, Jamestown, Tennessee and Mary Ashley Howerton; three step-children, Dianna Hendricks (husband, Barry), Anderson; Connie Duckworth (husband-Brad), Hartford City and Bob Mansfield (wife, Sandy), Hartford City and several step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of fifty years, Buster Hoover; her parents; one sister, Vela Ashley; three brothers, Everett Ashley, Dennis Ashley and Tom Ashley Jr.; and one step-son, Charles Mansfield.
Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2009 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd 3, Muncie, IN.
Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2009 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel or after 9 a.m. on Friday.
