Obituary

Tom Scott, 95, of Muncie, died December 10, 2020 after a long and wonderful life. He was born on December 7, 1925 in Upland, IN to the late Kenneth W. and Thelma Roseanna (Hickman) Scott.

Tom was a long-time farmer, milking Guernseys for many years. He also raised sheep, and for a time, pigs. He was chosen as the Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year in 1961. He remembered when many things on the farm were done by hand and then lived to see a transformation of everything done by machinery. He served in the Navy during World War II. His tour included several locations, including Hawaii, and he was part of the ground forces in Japan. He served as Hamilton Township Trustee and Assessor for eight years. He also served as President of the Delaware County Farm Bureau for nearly eight years.

Tom married Doris (Schull) in 1947. Together they traveled to many major cities around the United States. They also traveled to many National Parks and visited all but four states. They also visited Spain, France, North Africa, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Austria, and his favorite, Switzerland. Tom went to Taiwan with a delegation from Muncie to visit their sister city and was a representative for the agricultural community. Doris predeceased Tom in 1986. Tom married Frances (Rutledge) in 1993. They spent some winter months in Florida, went on a cruise through the Panama Canal, and made trips to Nova Scotia and several U.S. cities.

Tom always enjoyed playing board games and cards with family and friends. He was also a good bowler and enjoyed bowling late into his life. He also enjoyed his garden. When the kids were younger, it was a wonderful family affair planting and caring for the garden. At Halloween, when his kids were younger, he loved dressing up the entire family and visiting relatives and friends to see if they could guess who was who. He also enjoyed playing pool and ping pong with his kids and taking them swimming in the summer. Tom said, "Even though things did not always go as planned, God and Life was good to me."

Tom is survived by his wife, Frances; sons, Larry Scott (Tammy) of Muncie and Carl Scott (John) of Indianapolis; daughter, Loretta Bellar (Terry) of Muncie; grandkids, Sean Medsker (Anne) of Navarre, FL, Pam Kirby (Andy) of Remington, IN, Matthew Scott (Laura) of Medaryville, IN, and Jason Scott of Indianapolis; and six great-grandchildren. He also is survived by three step-children, six step-grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren, younger brother, Reverend Don Scott, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first wife, Doris, Tom was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ellen Echols and brother, Ted Scott. Tom had many close friends throughout his life, many of whom predeceased him.
